Hero of the Day

I finally found a great two bedroom apartment to accomplish my writing assignments. For it to become affordable, I had to acquire a roommate. My roommate was in his senior year at a prestigious tech. school (SD School of Mines) finishing up his degree in engineering. He was a little younger than I, in his early twenties.
He said he lived and believed in his Native American culture, the warrior philosophy. He also stated, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, athletics which he last included very outgoing.
With the exception of being Native American, he didn’t do any of what I just mentioned.
His appearance gave no hint of being athletic. He didn’t much resemble of being outgoing either. When he told me he worked out every day, I silently laughed and smirked.
He was a little to overweight and pudgy. How anyone could look at him and agree to his fitness outlook was totally mind-blowing.
I could hear him snoring late at night in his room calling the dragons. When he wasn’t snoring, his breathing sounded like an antique furnace.
As a former military veteran I acquired the concept of “attention to detail”. I tried to keep my room tidy while his room looked like a fucken landfill. It would smell like a wet dog and yesterday’s left over socks.
Every morning was the same old riff raff and bullshit. I quit drinking the coffee he always made.  It tasted like peppered water that made me want to spit. Most of the time, I would make a funny face as if swallowing a mouthful of rotten pickle juice.
I made a painful mistake to have him for a roommate. However, I felt a bit of sorrow for him but I will still congratulate him. He survived the challenges of his teenage years, with younger generation dealing with suicide, bullying, alcohol/drug abuse and their know it all complex etc…….
Fortunately, there is the discipline of gratitude; my roommate still had his whole life ahead of him. He was going to experience the American dream good or bad. Regardless he will be my hero of the day, also here’s a rock and roll reflection to all my associates on Google living the American Dream………enjoy your week and Dream on……… Metallica - "Hero of the Day
